I do not agree.I belive you can have a tat but the image is what matters most(why draw satanic stuff?).Its been said that if it's for ur own materialistic need it'll be wrong, so let me ask,are your shoes(etc) for your own materialistic need or for the Glory of God? In Leveticus19:28"You shall not cut yourselves nor put tattoo marks upon yourselves in connection with funeral rites;I am the Lord"(Living Bible) it has been said that if u put a tat to honour the dead it's wrong.I believe it's ok to put one that's not honouring the dead and is'nt demonic. That's my opinion.

I have a tattoo on my right hand that says, "repent for the kingdom is at hand" from Matthew. I've had literally hundreds of opportunities to witness just because someone saw my tattoo and wanted to know what it says. makes you think, huh?

Hi Edwin..

I think the best thing you can do is try and get your girlfriend to think about it herself..

First ask her why she wants to get more? Ask her if that is the wisest thing to do with her money... What is the reason for her getting more tattoo's?

No one just gets a tattoo because they want one.
The reason is there.

God commands us not to make idols of anything or worship any other Gods. (Exodus 20)

So if she is getting a tattoo for self edification, or any other reason that is not God first, then get her to think about how it is helpful to you, and other Christians. (After all, being Christian is to be like Christ, and be other person centered.)

See tattoo's, as I've said before is not a sin in itself..
Tattoo's are like other objects in life. They are just there, it is what us as Christians do with them, that determine if they are good or not.

The question I always ask myself is, what good do tattoo's do?? And honestly I can't find any answers to this question.

I will never get a tattoo, because I know that the only reason I'll be getting a tattoo is because of selfish ambitions, and not because I'm trying to glorify God..

Hope this helps.
I can suggest some prayer for wisdom is in order :)

I have a girlfriend with a couple of tattoos. she's a christian and we just started dating, but she was a little concerned when I found out. That in itself concerns me... she really wanted to impress me and knows that I try to live my life for God. she comes from a family that's a little broken, but they're trying to please the Lord as well. What concerns me is the attitude of hiding it at first, and then letting me know. Why would it be that way? Also, in a lot of cultures around the world tattoos DO mean something. I'm an immigrant to this country, and that in itself is enough for me as a Christian not to get a tattoo. So it might be fine in your culture (which I don't think it is in the whole of the U.S.). but it might be alright in your own particular niche and community. What about the community on the other side of the street? what about the weak Christian who's just starting out and sees it? To me, a tattoo is like smoking and drinking and doing drugs: not in itself a sin, but we live in a cultural context. Also, if one does take this hyper New Testament attitude, what is the end of it? What things AREN'T permitted to christians? We all know christian couples who live together and who tell us "you can't judge our hearts." Well, I'm sorry but I do judge... you shall know them by their fruits, and something that permanently stains your body is definitely a fruit, in my opinion. any comments? the situation sucks for me cause I do care for her, but I don't like her ink and the fact that she wants to get more. how does one approach this?

Abstain from all appearances of evil! It does not make a good witness for God. My son bought a thing that covers your arm and makes you look like you have your whole arm tattooed. It was awful.World influence! You could never tell by looking at him he believed in God. He looked so worldly he also wore studs, chains etc... I think he understands now how wrong this is. Thankfully they are all in the garbage now. As I threw them out I said with a smile of confidence ''You can't have my son Satan, he belongs to God and to me his mother and we will fight for him! ''

Hi Edwin,
Thank you for your comment. Always an inspiration to receive comments like this.

It's so true though hey.. I mean here we are having this urge to tattoo ourselves, but for who?? Definately not for God.

Sure FTM's is saying then we can't do anything. Because playing video games or watching movies doesn't glorify God either.

But i'm sure FTM will agree that there is a huge difference between movies and tattoo's. The one has an entertainment factor behind it. The other has conitations to tribal scaring, gangs, "being cool" which are all things God does not agree with.

Thats why Levicitus 19:28 was written. God didn't want the israelites to be like the other nations around them.

But israel allowed to entertain themselves.. That's why we should learn to discern. Choose the option which sides with God's viewpoint..

I was on my way to get a tattoo, but came across this article. And what it did, it gave me a clear understanding why did i want to get a tattoo in the first place? it's like I'm reading my own mind by reading this article. Deep down inside tattoo I feel it's more for me than for God or others. So I rest my case. No tattoo for me. God bless you for writing this article. I'm sure there's a lot of people like me out there.

So, by your logic, we shouldn't get anything... No video games, no cars, no paintings to hang on our walls... All because of materialism. I see your argument against tattoos, but it is not in any way a Biblical one.

(And no, I'm not a liberal.)

Hey mate! I found you!
Just did a quick read thru the tattoo thoughts.
Balanced but cautious. Nice

I'm with you that the Lev verse is about Israel's holiness. Question is - how do we express and find holiness now, in the new covenant? I'd say through being 'in Christ'. So being set apart is a status that affects our actions, not the other way around. But I think that is kind of what you said.

Here are some little thought experienments that helped me think thru it:

Would it be different if you lived in a community where everyone had tats and it wasn't seen as rebellious just 'normal'?

What if you woke up and someone had given you the tat in your sleep (I know - it's a stupid example - but the point is, if the issue wasn't cluttered by your own corrupt motives, would the actual picture itself be such a problem?)

But having said all that, I'm not going to advise anyone to get a tat.
